Events at Oblò
We strive to hold regular events (at least one a month) at Oblò with a view to:
- Attract new customers and groups of people who may otherwise frequent Oblò.
- Keep our ongoing customers interested and encourage them to experience different foods and cultures.
- Celebrate local and national holidays, festivals and events.
- Showcase our products, our staff’s talents and local produce.
- Create positive, atmospheric, community events that bring people together.
- Thank our loyal and regular customers.
As far as possible, these events are advertised well in advance, our database of customers receive personal notification by e-mail or mail, menus are available ahead of the occasion and customers are encouraged to book to avoid disappointment.
Private Function Hire
Oblò is able to cater for special events, parties, funerals and ceremonies and is also available to hire for private functions. Menus and buffets are always tailor made to suit customers’ tastes and budgets. We can provide personalised menus, decorations and commemorative cakes.
Please contact us for further information on prices and availability.
Restaurants Against Hunger
Result of the ‘Fight hunger. Eat out.’ Campaign in October 2008
Oblò and Giacopazzi’s participated in the above fundraising campaign for the month of October this year and we are proud to announce that a grand total of £131.97 was raised, a fantastic effort! We would like to thank all customers of both Oblò and Giacopazzi’s who kindly donated to this great cause, which raised money to help some of the world’s poorest people.
A big thank you also to all those staff that helped promote the fundraising campaign and who also donated money. Well done everyone!
Young Masterchef Competition
On Thursday 30th October Tom Nisbet (Head Chef) and Kerry Waddell (Manager) travelled to Coldstream to judge a Junior Masterchef Competition. The competition was organised by the staff and young people of Coldstream Youth Centre and Oblò were invited to become involved to judge the finalists.
On the day, teams of 4 from Duns and Coldstream Youth Centres battled it out in the final following weeks of practice. To start with, we had the opportunity to watch members of both teams hard at work in the kitchen, carefully preparing their main courses of a chicken stir fry. Then, along with other members and staff of the youth teams, we tasted the smoothie, stir fry and Victoria Sponge that each team had prepared.
The standard was extremely high and we were really impressed with the effort and enthusiasm of all the young people who took part. After much deliberation, we judged the winners to be the young people from Duns Youth Centre who pipped Coldstream to the post with their amazingly light sponge and flavoursome stir fry! The winners were awarded a meal voucher for four to the value of £80.00 and they plan on visiting Oblò to spend their prize in November.
We would like to congratulate the winners and thank all the staff and young people of both Duns and Coldstream Youth Centres for asking us to be involved and for making us feel so welcome on the day. We had a great time and would love to be involved in any future competitions. We thought the competition was a creative way of encouraging young people to try cooking so that they can see what they are capable of producing and achieving, whilst having a bit of fun.
Borders Banquet
The Borders Banquet is a Food Tourism initiative supported by Scottish Enterprise Borders and Visitscotland Borders. It is a 10 day festival of fantastic food and dining experiences in the countryside, towns and villages of the Scottish Borders.
This year’s Borders Banquet will run from 7th - 16th November and it will be the fourth one we have taken part in since Oblò opened in February 2003. Oblò is proud to be associated with such a fantastic celebration of food and local produce.
As part of the drive to engage more businesses in the festival this year, and also to encourage them to be more pro-active in promoting their own events and the festival, Oblò was chosen as one of the businesses to conduct a Case Study on.
We were chosen as we are seen as a business who goes the ‘extra mile’ in promoting and advertising our events and the 10 day festival. Our aim continues to be to engage locals and visitors alike to take part in our unique and entertaining events and to enjoy the fantastic produce we have available in the Scottish Borders.
