Hellfire Bay: £21.00 (Bottle) £5.50 (175ml) £3.95 (125ml); Chardonnay, Western Australia, 2010; The Chardonnay is pale straw in colour with fresh perfumes of melon; and ripe peaches, balanced by a nutty, toasty creaminess. It is; still fresh on the palate, but has an attractive fullness.; Fresh flavours carry through to the finish.

Los Gansos: £17.95 (Bottle) £4.75 (175ml) £3.50 (125ml); Gewurtzraminer, Chile, 2010; Expressive nose; floral aromas interacting with lychees.; Fruity and full of flavour and freshness.

Sangoma: £14.95 (Bottle) £4.00 (175ml) £2.90 (125ml); Chenin Blanc, South Africa, 2010; This bright, vibrant and perfumed white has excellent varietal; character, with a lovely bitter lemon twist offsetting the ripe,; fresh, tropical fruit character. It is dry yet rich on the; palate with crisp acidity and good length.

Sancerre La Clochette: £24.00 (Bottle); Sauvignion Blanc, France, 2007; Dry, crisp and elegant with fresh gooseberry; fruit dominating the senses.

Rich, flavoursome, ripe and rounded

Woolloomooloo: £15.95 (Bottle) £4.20 (175ml) £3.10 (125ml); South Eastern Australia, 2010; Aromas of black fruit, hints of spice and vanilla from oak, soft fleshy; palate with rich fruit sweetness.

Willunga: £19.95 (Bottle) £5.25 (175ml) £3.95 (125ml); Grenache, Australia, 2007; Intense, dark red fruit and well integrated cedar and toasty oak.; The intense bouquet is complicated by plum and black cherry characters.; A ‘classy Aussie’ just full of luscious ripe fruit.

Light, fruity, easy-drinking

Sutter Home: £14.95 (Bottle) £4.00 (175ml) £2.90 (125ml); Merlot, California, 2008; Fresh black cherry aroma with hints of tobacco and herbal spice.; Excellent structure and a long, rich finish.

Saint Clair: £26.95 (Bottle); Pinot Noir, New Zealand, 2007; Cherry notes dominate the palate and are supported by hints of plum and; redcurrant.

Complex, distinctive and full bodied

Valenciso: £35.00 (Bottle); Rioja Reserva, Spain, 2004; A classy wine from a small bodega, which only produces one wine:; ‘one cellar, one wine, one brand’; Cherry red, with flashes of garnet and ruby.

Punto Finale: £19.95 (Bottle)£5.20 (175ml) £3.85 (125ml); Malbec, Argentina, 2009; Deep ruby colour, loaded with aromas of vibrant black berry; fruits and a ‘lightly herby character with hints of; liquorice. Medium weight, with good balance.

Wine at Oblò

Rather than produce an extensive wine list, we have instead chosen to carefully select a number of wines which we feel meet our customers’ needs and which best compliment our menus and style.

Our wine list is compiled following discussions with staff, consultation with customers and in collaboration with our wine merchants, Paul Burton Wholesale Drinks & Lockett Brothers of North Berwick (http://www.lockettbros.co.uk/). We have an excellent relationship with both our wine suppliers, who always provide us with samples and offers us advice and recommendations.

Both of our wine suppliers have also supported our wine tasting nights for customers, which have proved fantastic opportunities to ‘test’ the popularity of wines and gain customer feedback in making our final selection when reviewing our list.

To ensure our staff feel confident in offering wine to customers, or advising them according to their taste, we regularly hold wine tastings and have also undertaken bespoke wine training and food and wine matching courses. Some of our staff have also successfully gained their WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) Intermediate Certificate in Wine & Spirits.
